Guidance – Capability reviews
Guidance document for the manager responsible for over-seeing and assessing the employee and their performance during the Capability period. At times you may have an employee who is underperforming. You can address such issues through a type of performance management approach which we call “capability” and one which works in parallel with the disciplinary procedure. Although it is not always appropriate to label incapability and poor performance as misconduct warranting disciplinary action, it may be necessary at times. This document gives a brief explanation of when to capability might be appropriate and a high-level outline of the steps needed.
